Forestry at Little Elms
Little Elms Montessori Nursery have been able to develop and provide Forestry to the children as part of our nursery curriculum. Forestry learning is seen as an important part of the curriculum at Little Elms Montessori Nursery, complementing the Montessori and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. Woodland outdoor learning reflects the nursery’s vision of developing an organic curriculum that is centred around the individual child, enabling all children to reach their full potential socially, emotionally and academically during their time here.
We have a fully trained Forestry Leader, who is able to teach and support our other staff in the Forestry method. As a team we have been delivering these Forestry teachings every day for the children in our wonderful outdoor area, building dens, building a small fire pit, hunting for bugs and learning about our environment. We have also held Forestry PTA meetings with the parents and carers to share our Forestry knowledge and how they can deliver this at home. We see a positive impact in the children’s development, as a result of the freedom, time and space they are given in their learning outdoors we have seen children’s confidence, social skills, physical development, motivation and concentration and their knowledge and understanding of their world around them grow. These children have been demonstrating their independence at each individual child’s rate.
